We now have a beautiful sculpture in front of Rosa Parks Elementary School.
Seattle area sculptor John Hoge and his staff created,
Books, Blocks and
Balls especially for Rosa Parks Elementary School to "strengthen the
school's individual identity, and depict its educational mission." A huge crane was
seen outside the front office on Thursday, September 14, 2006, as Mr. Hoge and
his assistant hoisted the huge structure into place.
The sculpture contains seven blocks, each hand carved with a grade level,
signifying each grade. There are three rough
hewn balls to show the fun at Rosa Parks Elementary.
The center stone is roughly seven and a half feet long and thirty inches wide
with an open book with two perfect quotes from Rosa Parks. There is also a
small notebook, crayons and a CD, which, knowing Mr. Newport, probably has
Elvis tunes on it.
The red and black granite, which portrays a child's sense of color and random,
like a child's bedroom, encourages people to sit on it (after the grass is
established).
Be sure to take a look at this incredible sculpture by a great Northwest Artist,
John Hoge, as you come visit Rosa Parks Elementary.
