 Mrs. Dean - Music Teacher

Let's hear from our music teacher, Cynthia Dean, "I'm excited to see all the children!! I love my job because I get to have everyone in the whole school in my class. "

Outside of school Mrs. Dean loves anything to do with music (singing, choir, piano, drumming, listening).  She belongs to her church choir and directs a K-1 children's group at her church.  Mrs. Dean likes to make jewelry and take art classes.  She loves dancing and enjoys doing community outreach (similar to Habitat for Humanity).

Mrs. Dean spent part of her summer learning enough Russian and Croatian to survive her summer trip. "Thanks to my Russian speaking students at Rosa Parks, I was covered for the basics. I've also been listing to a lot of female jazz singers (Nancy Wilson, Carmen McCrae, Peggy Lee, Diane Schurr, Keely Smith, Billy Holiday). I'll be going to hear Diana Krahl in August. Whoopie!"

Mrs.  Dean spent 17 years teaching music at Lakeview Elementary School .  She spent 5 years of traveling to many schools teaching music in Southern California.  She was at Northwest University, Kirkland for 5 years, teaching Choral Methods and voice.  She has been married to Scott, for 30 years.  He is a conductor and singer.  They became a couple in high school choir and have 2 wonderful children, Elizabeth, 22 and Nathan, 26.  Nathan is married to Michelle and they live in Bellevue.  Elizabeth is living in Kirkland working and going to school.  "I live in Kirkland and love it!!"

Mrs. Dean has received degrees from:
California State University, Fullerton 1978, and BA in Music Education. .
Lesley University, Cambridge, Mass., 1999, M.A. Curriculum Development, Creative Arts
