 Mrs. Foster - Instructional Assistant

Patty Foster is a graduate of San Jose Community College, San Jose Dental Technician College.  She and her husband Al moved to Washington State 34 years ago from California. "It was one of the best decisions we made." They started a Carpet Cleaning business in 1975. Mrs. Foster was also working as an office manager for 3 dentists in Bellevue.
She left that position to take on a much more challenging role...parenting. My son Paul is a senior at Western now and majoring in Recreational Therapy. My daughter Emily is in Hawaii working on a housing project this summer and will be a sophomore at Western. She is thinking of going into teaching. The Foster's have a cute little orange cat named Toby who will keep their nest from being empty.

After many years of volunteering at Alcott where her children went to school, Patty Foster decided to become part of the LWSD staff. She began subbing at many different schools, mainly Dickinson, Wilder and Alcott. "I learned so much during those 5 years and made many great friends," says Mrs. Foster.  When a position opened up at Dickinson, she joined the staff and loved working at one school. During the last 6 years, she has worked with all the grade levels. Part of that time she helped in the Resource Room with reading and math, and when needed, felt comfortable working in the office.

Mrs. Foster's favorite hobby would have to be reading. She enjoys a great mystery and always makes time in her day for it. She combines her other two loves by working out to music. "My kids bought me an IPod for Christmas and I'm hooked!"  With the kids making their home in Bellingham this fall, Mr. and Mrs. Foster will keep busy with playing tennis and swimming.

Mrs. Foster is very excited to be back at Rosa Parks after a fun filled summer, "
My husband and I just came back from Victoria, B.C. where we visited the Butchart Gardens. It was so beautiful that now I feel motivated to beautify and care for my own little garden patch. I continue to strive to live up to our Rosa Parks motto, 'Be Nice, Work Hard.'"
