Tina Hickox - Rosa Parks Elementary Counselor

The Counselor is in, and she is Tina Hickcox, a native of  Tacoma, WA where she grew up with her parents and younger sister. Her parents still live in the house they moved into when she was 2.  Her mom is the computer lab supervisor for Tacoma Community College, and dad is an engineer for Boeing.  Ms. Hickcox' sister is an assistant manager for a Starbuck's store in Federal way. Mmmm - free coffee!
Ms. Hickcox is coming to the end of her first year as a school counselor.  She has been at Audubon Elementary in Redmond and Lakeview Elementary in Kirkland. Before going back to school for school counseling, she was a purchasing agent/contract administrator for a fiberglass manufacturing company in Bellingham, WA. She received her BA in Sociology, Master in Education in School Counseling, both from Western Washington University.

Ms. Hickcox brings musical talent to Rosa Parks Elementary.  "I have played the flute since 5th grade - most recently as part of the 108 Woodwind Quintet and as a substitute for the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra."  She also loves to go for walks, read, and do anything crafty.  Her most recent craft endeavor is painting - nothing scenic, but lots of colors and geometric shapes. Oddly enough, they tend to be the same size or shape as objects around my house (coincidence, we think not).  "Spending time with family and friends is also important to me," says Ms. Hickcox.

When asked what excites her about Rosa Parks Elementary Ms. Hickcox says, "I am very excited to be part of a team that celebrates creative expression of all kinds and uses the arts to further students' academic growth."
