RE:	Safe Arrival Program

THE PRIMARY GOAL OF SAFE ARRIVAL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE REACHED THE SCHOOL SAFELY! We have a Safe Arrival Program in place at Carl Sandburg, whose purpose is to follow up on students who are absent yet not accounted for.

All parents/guardians of Sandburg students are required to notify the school if their child will not be in attendance. If the school is not notified and a student is not present in class, a parent volunteer will call to determine your child's whereabouts. All Sandburg, Discovery and Quest students are included in the program. If you do not wish to have your child enrolled in this program, you must check the box on the Safe Arrival Form and return it to the school.

One of our goals this year is to reduce the time spent tracking down parents who have not informed the school of their child's absence or tardiness. In the past, our volunteers have sometimes spent hours trying to contact parents on a particular morning. If there were an emergency and a child was missing, those hours could be crucial. We cannot stress enough how important it is that all parents notify the school if your child is absent or tardy. Our Safe Arrival line operates from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. at 821-6329. This number will connect you to an answering machine which is exclusively used for Safe Arrival. You can also call the office at 823-8670 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and speak to a secretary. Please make note of these numbers and remember to use them. We start calling parents as soon as we receive the teachers' attendance folders at 9:30 a.m. Ideally you need to contact the school by then. You may also send a note to inform the school of future absences.

Unfortunately, due to staffing restrictions, we are unable to include afternoon kindergarten in the program at this time. However, if enough afternoon kindergarten parents are interested in volunteering (it only takes about 5 minutes), it may be possible to set up a schedule.

Thank you to all of our parents, parent volunteers and office staff for your help and support in keeping all of our kids safe.

The program will start on Monday, September 18th. Please complete and return the attached Safe Arrival Program form by Thursday, September 14th.
